!Women Art Revolution

Film Frame: "!Women Art Revolution" is hosted by the Crocker Art Museum on Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Judy Chicago, Miriam Schapiro, Judith Baca, and other legendary artists paint a new picture of the feminist art movement in this documentary. Through interviews with her colleagues spanning four decades, Director Lynn Hershman Leeson—an award-winning artist herself—traces the history of the movement from its beginnings in the trenches of the anti-war and civil rights forces in the 1960s, through groundbreaking developments in women's art in the '70s, to the emergence of the infamous Guerilla Girls and feminist art today. The film features an original score composed by Carrie Brownstein and a soundtrack that includes Laurie Anderson, Sleater-Kinney, Janis Joplin, Tribe 8, Erase Errata, and The Gossip. Feminist art pioneer and Sacramento State professor Vicki Hall will introduce the film and offer post-screening remarks. Space is limited.
